Program Specific Admission Requirements
In addition to the Graduate College requirements, the Population and Conservation Biology Program has the following admission requirements.
- Three letters of recommendation (preferably from faculty members) familiar with the student's academic preparation and experience.
- A statement of academic and career goals and research interests (Statement of Goals Form)
- A current CV
- An "Intent to Mentor" letter from a faculty member who is either a core or contributing member of the Population and Conservation Biology Program at Texas State University. See the Faculty link for a list of participating faculty members. In the letter, the faculty member must agree through preliminary contacts, discussion, or an interview with the student to serve as the student's initial thesis mentor/advisor. Contact with faculty is the primary vehicle for learning of opportunities for research and support, and for developing potential avenues of research. Students may change advisors in the course of their study. The intent of the mentor requirement is to help ensure that students have a successful start to their graduate career. Sponsorship by a faculty member is an absolute requirement for admission into the program and applications without the letter of the "Intent to Mentor" letter are considered incomplete and will not be processed further.
